Never throw away your apple scraps again!  Instead, try making your own homemade apple cider vinegar using your leftover apple scraps. It's easy, cost-effective, and a great way to reduce waste. Plus, you'll end up with a delicious and healthy addition to your pantry.
Ingredients:
  • Fill 3/4 of a jar with Apple Scraps (apple peels, cores and seeds)
  • 4 TBL Local Honey or Raw Sugar
  •  2 Quarts of Water
Mixing Pear and Apples in the next batch
Instructions:
Fill a glass jar 3/4 of the way with Apple or Pair Scraps (cores & peels)
Disolve Honey OR Sugar into Water and Stir
Pour Honey or Sugar water over the Apples
Add weights to keep apples submerged.
Dry jar rim
Add a paper coffee filter and secure with a rubber band or mason jar lid.

Store 3 weeks in a cool dark place like a cabinet.
Check often to make sure that all apples are submerged to prevent molding.
After 3 weeks strain apples and compost.
Pour the strained apple liquid into a clean jar and top with a coffee filter and rubber band or mason jar ring for another 3-4 weeks.
Stir every few days.
Apple cider vinegar is ready when it reaches your desired tartness. Remove the coffee filter.  Pour into a mason jar with a plastic lid to seal or flip the top bottle and start using it for salads, or any recipe you like!

Never miss a recipe!

Notes from the cook:
Sugar can be substituted for the local honey.
Make sure your water is free of chlorine and other harmful chemicals.
